School Year

Participating children must be 4 year of age on or before September 1. Parents can enroll their child in the state’s free, voluntary prekindergarten (VPK) education program that year or wait until the following year when their child is 5. Click here for more information.

 This program consists of 540 instructional hours, and is offered through both private and public providers. Please note that daily schedules vary by provider.

Summer

Children can participate in the summer VPK Program as long as they did not previously participate in the school-year VPK program.* The summer program consists of 300 instructional hours and is offered through both private child care and public school providers in Miami-Dade county. Daily schedules can range anywhere from 5 to 7 hours.

*Certain documented hardship and good cause exemptions may apply.
